PTA/Stenting
With the balloon catheter treatment the peripheral arterial disease (PAD) can be treated that is caused by a reduction or interruption of the arterial blood flow caused by a constricting change of the membrane or constriction of the vessel´s diameter. Pain from walking, non healing wounds at the legs and the loss of the mobility because of an amputation are the consequences of this disease.
A percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) is a procedure with a catheter at the periphere arteries (pelvis and legs). Aim is to stretch and reopen constrictions with the help of a balloon catheter to improve the blood flow. If necessary an additional stent made from metal can be installed also to prevent a constriction again. Conclusively the catheter is pulled off tourniquet is put on. In many cases this procedure can be done as an out-patient.
