Lasertherapy of starbust varices
With the laser beam that is applied from the outside on the skin only starbust varices can be treated, no deeper varicose veins.
The so called starbust varices, thin vein networks under the skin appear at about 50% of the population. In 10%-15% this is a sign for a severe weakness of the connective tissue or subjacent vein weakness, varicose veins or varices. That is why there should be a color duplex-sonography of the veins to preclude an insufficient connection to the deeper veins before the planned sclerotherapy.
Women suffer more often from starbust varices than men. These shine reddishly or bluely on the skin and are stimulated by pregnancy, age, overweight, brush massage and intensive insolation or heat from the tanning bed or baths.
The atrophy of veins at the leg with a laser only works on untanned or very little tanned skin and only for very blue strabust varices well enough. Red starbust varices can also be treated in the face or the cleavage.
The laser beam runs through the surrounding tissue and develops in the vein its full energy. That stops the blood flow, the starbust varices die off and are degraded within the next weeks. Often you will not be able to see the effect at the beginning except for a little irritation of the skin. You can expect a definite result after 4-6 weeks. First there can be a brownish or greyish shadow. Also a hypo- or hyperpigmentation is possible ( as a consequence of an easy burn). The treatment takes place in more than one meeting. The laser beam is painful, especially when there is little fat tissue. A week before the therapy the patient should not take blood-thinning medication like Heparin or Aspirin when possible. The patient also has to avoid direct insolation for at least 14 days after the treatment (also tanning bed). Compression treatment is not necessary.
